WSBF is the sole authority for organizing and approving international, continental and world championships for national teams and clubs. Only recognized national Member federations may take part.

Continental Nations Championship

  • Held for Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas
  • 8 to 12 national teams per continent
  • Group stage, then quarter-finals, semi-finals and final
  • Top 4–6 teams advance to the World Championship or its qualifiers
Elite

International Nations Cup

  • Held annually or every two years
  • 12 national teams (closed number)
  • Continental champions + top-ranked teams
  • 3 groups of 4 → top 8 → knockout to the final
Qualifiers

World Championship Qualifiers

  • Mandatory for all Member national federations
  • Played continentally in groups or leagues
  • Example allocation for 24 teams: Africa 6, Asia 6, Europe 6, Americas 5, host 1
Flagship

World Championship

  • The highest official national-team tournament
  • 20 or 24 teams depending on the cycle
  • 6 groups of 4 → round of 16 → quarter-finals → semi-finals → final
  • Host chosen two years in advance
Super Cup

International Super Cup

  • A short, high-level international event
  • World champion, runner-up and continental champions (4–6 teams)
  • Semi-finals and final, or mini-groups
Clubs

Club World Championship

  • The official world event for clubs, held every two years
  • 16 clubs (closed number)
  • Africa 4, Asia 4, Europe 4, Americas 3, host 1
  • 4 groups of 4 → quarter-finals → knockout to the final

WSBF keeps an official world ranking for national teams and clubs. Points are awarded per tournament:

The ranking is used for

  • Seeding of groups
  • Invitations
  • Continental seat allocation
  • Recognition of ranked teams

Commitment

Any unjustified withdrawal exposes a federation or club to a fine, exclusion from the next tournament and a deduction of ranking points.
